Rebecca
“Becky” Enberg, 88, of Eureka, passed away April 24, 2021
with her family by her side. She lived a full and wonderful life.
Becky
was born November 18, 1932 to Marvin East and Elizabeth (Dukes) East
in Eureka. In 1938, her mother married Lloyd Roberts, a sheep rancher
in Petrolia. Becky was eternally grateful for the life he provided
her and her siblings. She loved the Mattole Valley, where she grew
up, and joined the Mattole Valley Historical Society to help preserve
the history.
Becky
attended elementary school in Petrolia and
Ferndale High, and eventually graduated from Oakland Technical High
School in 1949. In those 11 years, having skipped 5th grade, she
never missed a day of school and received many awards.
Becky
married Kenneth Smith and the couple had three daughters. When they
divorced, she began working for the Humboldt County District Attorney
Family Support Division. She loved her job, and took pride in her
work. She retired after 28 years of service.
Becky
married the love of her life, Roy Enberg, in 1977. Their adventures
were many; traveling via motorcycle and car with dear friends all
over the United States. They both loved to dance and were simply
amazing to watch.
Through
the years she was an avid hunter, traveling as far as Canada for
deer, elk, caribou and wild boar. She consistently volunteered at the
American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shop, often bringing her
grandchildren with her when they visited. She also volunteered at the
Jazz festivals, elections, Stand Down, and accompanied many Veterans
on the Honor Flight Tour of the Wall in Washington, D.C.. She was a
member of the Elk’s Lodge, Moose Lodge, Swiss Club, Mattole Valley
Historical Society, Humboldt Pioneers, H.E.R.O.’s, Friendship Club,
and Retread Motorcycle Club. She loved to garden, sew, knit, crochet,
embroider, paint china, weave pine needle baskets and work jigsaw
puzzles. She donated many handmade items for charity fundraisers and
entered her work in the Humboldt County Fair, always a ribbon winner.
Becky
was predeceased by her loving husband of 31 years in 2008, her
mother, father, step-father and siblings: Albert Lockwood, Katherine
Chenoweth, Douglas East, Lloydene Wines, and her step-daughter Kim
(Enberg) McLaughlin. She is survived by her three daughters: Karen
Willenberg (Tuolumne, CA), Tracy Maher (Bella Vista, CA), Ronda
Hatcher (Eureka, CA), six grandchildren: Shane Jordan, Brad Hooper,
Melanie Hooper, Jenner Maher, Courtney Rodes, Emily Willenberg; two
step-grandchildren: Jodi Franchi and Ross Burns; eleven
great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
