Olympic diver Tom Daley was caught on camera knitting during Sunday’s women’s diving final at the Tokyo Olympics and many people were left wondering what he was creating.
Turns out, it’s a cosy pink sweater for his dog.
Responding to the viral photo with a picture of what he was making, he posted an Instagram Story on his craft page, Made With Love By Tom Daley, and explained: “For those asking what I’m making here … I am making a dog jumper for @izzythe.frenchie.”

It’s been a stellar Olympics so far for Tom on both the medal and crafting front. The diver, 27, won his first-ever Olympic gold medal in the men’s synchronised 10m platform last week alongside his diving partner Matty Lee.
In honour of this, Tom took to Instagram to reveal that he’d made a special medal cosy, which bears the Union Jack on one side and the Japanese flag on the other.

In a clip posted on his knitting and crochet account, Tom proudly showed off his Union Jack-style medal holder, writing the message: “THANK YOU TO ALL MY FELLOW STITCHERS!
“Learning to knit and crochet has helped me so much through these Olympics and we won GOLD yesterday.”
“This morning, I made a little cosy for my medal to stop getting scratched,” Tom added in his video. “It slots in like this. It all tucks in nicely, to have a little pouch for me to carry around my medal without it getting scratched. How about that?”

Tom previously spoke about his newfound crafting hobby and revealed that he finds it very cathartic.
“When we went to Japan for the test event I actually took my knitting with me and was doing it during my competition because sometimes there are 45 minutes in between each dive so I’d sit there and knit and just take my mind off the competition completely. I’m obsessed!”

He added: “I’m thinking of taking a little project out there where I’m going to try and create some kind of Olympic themed jumper so I can look back in 20 years and be like ‘I made that at the Olympics’ how cool is that?”
Tom has revealed he’s already working on a Team GB cardigan which we can’t wait to see in all its finished glory.
