Weaver’s Knot
The Weaver’s Knot is a handy little knot to know for those times when you need to join two pieces of thread together in your embroidery. It’s also useful for when you need to attach a new piece of thread to your fabric. The key to this knot is to make sure that the tails of the thread are pointing in opposite directions when you tie it. This will give the knot extra strength.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Thread your needle with the first piece of thread. Leave a tail of about 6 inches.
2. Thread your needle with the second piece of thread. Leave a tail of about 6 inches.
3. Tie the two tails together in a basic knot.
4. Hold the intersection of the two threads with your left thumb and index finger.
5. Use your right hand to tie a second knot around the intersection, making sure to go over the top of the first knot.
6. Pull the intersection tight. You should now have a strong knot that will hold the two threads together securely.

Does embroidery floss shrink when washed?
Cotton embroidery threads can sometimes shrink in the dryer, but this is rarely a big problem. When shrinkage and puckering occurs, it’s usually due to the fabric that the embroidery is on. It’s important to pre-wash fabric you plan to embroider on and hand wash it after your embroidery is complete. This will help to avoid any shrinkage or puckering issues.
