Mary Casey began her crocheting and knitting journey with her best friend about two decades ago. Mary’s friend had enlisted her to help make a baby blanket, and she fell in love with crocheting. After that, a family friend introduced her to knitting.
“I found my heart and soul in knitting. No pun intended, it has been the thread weaving between the myriad seasons in my life,” Mary shared.
Now, she gets to share her love for knitting and crocheting with our city. On Jan. 29, her shop, Stitches Boutique and Lounge, will open on 15th Street in Downtown Plano. The shop will sell yarn, as well as crocheting and knitting tools. It will also offer classes from beginner to advanced in both crocheting and knitting.
Mary hopes to eventually expand into macrame, embroidery, cross-stitching and weaving as well within the shop. “I would love to be able to support all textile artists,” she said.
Though Mary never had the intention to open her own shop, the opportunity fell in her lap. Her husband owns the CPA firm that is located upstairs from the boutique. The shop is a family-owned-and-operated business run by Mary and her three kids.
